Corbett National Park

Jim Corbett National Park is the first wildlife reserve of India, sprawled over an area of approximately 500 sq km in the Himalayan foothills. This park was established in year 1936, however in 1955 - 1956 this had been renamed Ramganga National Park, the originally park was named in the honour of icon hunter turned conservationist, Mr. Corbett was well known hunter of man eaters tigers, lions and leopards in Lower Garhwal and Kumaon hills during year of 1920.

Corbett National Park is known as paradise of wildlife in North India, with its diverse wildlife and breathtaking huge landscapes. The natural exceptionality of this land was recognised long ago. In year 1936, Corbett attained the division as the first Indian wildlife National Park to be established in North India foothills of mighty Himalayas.

Corbett National Park at altitude of 365 m. – 1100 m. above MSL, is quite poplar for its diverse wildlife, and as the place for the initiating Indian Project Tiger. During 1973 the ‘PROJECT TIGERS’ was launched in 9 tigers reserves in India, and Corbett National Park is one of them. This park is spread in thick jungle area of 325 Square Kilometers, later 197 Square Kilometers was added later. Again in 1991 additional land of 797 square kilometers added as buffer area to this park, which comprises of Kalagarh Wildlife division and Ram Nagar Forest area. Altogether it forms the Corbett Tiger Reserve over 1288 sq. km.

This park remarkable in terms geographical and climatically locations, this park is located between Terai and Himalayas and rivers the streams, and ridges crisscrossing the hilly terrain, now Corbett with a amazing variety of landscapes. This vibrant mosaic of habitation – dry and wet, mountainous and plans, rugged and gentle, grass and ant thick forests, forests – nourishing plenty of plant and animal species, in lieu of Himalayan as well as plains kinds. The highly popular of Corbett’s wild animals are the Bengal Tigers and the Asiatic Elephant, also about 600 species of avifauna, in this order the Jim Corbett Park is one of the most wealthy bird regions on Indian soil. The Main wildlife animals found here: Tiger, Chital, Elephant, Nilgai, Sambar, Gharial, Crocodile, King Cobra, Muntjac, Wild boar, Common Musk Shrew, Hedgehog, Flying Fox, Indian Pangolin, beside that more than 600 bird species.

Corbett Park is located between of 2 diverse hill areas of Uttaranchal i.e. Kumaon and Garwal both the places are beautiful hilly regions with lots of tourist’s places and people live over here with great traditions and culture from years. Hence, the Park represents a fusion of cultures of both these mountain areas.

Best Time to visit: November 15 to June 15.

Note: The Park: will remain Closed from June to October, Due to Heavy Monsoons.
